Radioactive fallout consists of contaminated dust and particles released into the atmosphere after a nuclear explosion or nuclear facility incident. These particles can travel through the air for tens or even hundreds of kilometers depending on wind conditions and weather patterns. Even areas far from the original explosion may still experience radioactive contamination.

Unlike the blast itself, fallout is often invisible. You cannot see it, smell it, or feel it. However, radioactive particles can settle on homes, vehicles, clothing, food, and water sources. Once inhaled, these particles may enter the lungs and increase long-term radiation exposure risks.

This is why distance alone is not enough. While being farther away can reduce initial radiation intensity, proper radiation protection equipment remains essential in high-risk situations.
